metaphor- A figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them
stereotype- An opinion formed on assumption Examples: The poster of the German kid holding food with the women around him. That all people from the South are poor farmers.
allusion- The act of alluding to or hinting at something. Examples: Madame hinted that she had to sell all the art work to keep the family afloat. The French Resistance Fighters in France were hinting that if he walked far enough he would find other fighters.
personification- Attribution of personal qualities especially a representation of a thing or abstraction as a person or by the human form. Examples: The poster of the German kid holding food with the women around him. The nazi that is following Madame back to the hotel in Switzerland. How are these examples of personification? Personification takes an inanimate object and gives it human qualities.
symbolism- the art or practice of using symbols especially by investing things with a symbolic meaning or by expressing the invisible or intangible by means of visible or sensuous representations: as a: artistic imitation or invention that is a method of revealing or suggesting immaterial, ideal, or otherwise intangible truth or states b: the use of conventional or traditional signs in the representation of divine beings and spirits. Examples: The book was a symbol when Henry was getting off the train. When he walked into the cafe after getting off the train and wastaken by the chef into the back.

Henry was shot down in Germany.
Henry had been interrogated by the Gestapo.
Henry had to try to drag Billy out of the ambush.

Henry needed to control himself from revealing info through his torture.
Henry forced himself to keep walking to the young boy and his mother's home.
Henry had nightmares from his experience at war.
Henry had many external problems but here are three. First, when Henry is shot down over Germany while on a flight mission. It get resolved by the school teacher that finds him and helps him out. Also, when Henry promised to get Billy out of the fire fight because they were ambushed by french gestapo and about to be shot. It is resolved when the start a commotion and the guards get distracted and the other pilots attack the nazis, letting Billy and Henry get away but as they are running Billy gets shot and Henry gets arrested. That led to Henry's interrogation by the gestapo. The way this was resolved was when they were moving Henry, to testify against a person who helped him escape, Henry killed his guides and escaped.
Henry had many internal problems but here are three. First, the mental struggle, Henry had, to keep walking the way the maquis told him to. This is resolved by Henry pushing on to his final destination and being helped by Pierre. Then next, the problem about not revealing his sources when being tortured by the Gestapo. This is resolved by him escaping during a transport. Finally, the issue with Henry being haunted by his nightmares from his time in France. Does this get resolved?

Claudette had some external problems and here are three of them. When she struggled with the Maquis and that was settled by Henry cooling her down. Next, when she is fighting the crowd to try to save a maquis worker and Henry saves her by running her out of the crowd. Then when she and Henry got mugged by the black marketer who tried to stab her but it is resolved by Henry punching him. Why does she sturggle with the Maquis? Explain the circumstances.

The main way Hitler brought the youth into his Nazi was by creating the Hitler Youth. Hitler Youth was a paramilitary organization made of German children used to promote joining the army. This force was basically the children's army and, especially towards the end of the war, the were used to fight on the front lines with Hitler's SS Regime to fend off incoming American force from Berlin. Also, there was evidence of the Hitler Youth being stationed at the beach of Normandy during the Invasion. This organization helped make the world in Hitler's image because it allowed for all German kids to learn how to join the Nazi War Machine once he was old enough. Hitler wanted these kids to be battle ready and take the place of the men who left to fight. Absolutely! This would promise that future generations would carry on Hitler's way of leadership.

Bandwagon- A party, cause, movement, etc., that by its mass appeal or strength readily attracts many followers.
Scapegoat- A person or group made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place.
Bandwagon applies to my novel through Nazism. Nazism became big through Hitler and as it started out small it quickly gain supporters and ended up making it the main party in Germany within 10 years of starting. And towards the end, people 'jumped on' because if they didn't, they were in jeopardy of being killed.
Scapegoat applies to my novel through the persecution of people who assisted the Nazis.
